In conjunction with the World Head and Neck Cancer Day on 27th July 2023, the Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Department organized an event to celebrate our head and neck cancer survivors and recognize how this disease has affected their lives. This event was graced by the Director and Deputy Directors of UMMC, health care providers from relevant departments and the public. We took this occasion to officiate our National Laryngectomee Support group (NLS) which was formed to provide a supportive community for the patients and their families as they go through this difficult journey. A video montage of these patients who not only survived but overcame the challenges in communication was showcased. Many of these survivors also attended this event as this was an opportunity for them to get together to share their experiences and give encouragement to one another. Additionally, there was a series of informative talks by distinguished speakers consisting of head and neck surgeons, oncologists, speech therapists and dieticians. The aim was to heighten the awareness about head and neck cancers and educate both the public and health care providers. Lastly, there was a pop-up display of posters detailing the risk factors as well as the signs and symptoms of head and neck cancers. Early detection is the key, and we hope this campaign will help to spread the word. #WorldHeadNeckCancerDay #WHNCD
