As part of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month – July 2026, a focused multidisciplinary symposium was organized in Karachi, Pakistan, in collaboration with the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS), PHNS, and the Society of Medical Oncology Pakistan.

Held on 25 July 2026 at the Movenpick Hotel, Karachi, the session brought together head and neck surgeons, medical oncologists, and allied specialists to address a timely and clinically pressing question: whether immunotherapy should be considered earlier in the treatment sequence — in the pre-operative window — for patients with resectable head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), rather than being reserved for recurrent or metastatic disease.

The symposium's multidisciplinary framing reflected the evolving evidence base around neoadjuvant and perioperative immune checkpoint inhibition in resectable HNSCC, encouraging surgeons and oncologists to critically evaluate treatment sequencing, patient selection, and pathological response as immunotherapy moves earlier into the curative-intent pathway.

Organized as part of a series of events supporting Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, the event was facilitated with academic support from Himmel Education, reinforcing continued regional engagement with contemporary, evidence-driven head and neck oncology practice.
