Brief Summary :
To mark World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2026, a public awareness campaign was organized on 31 July at Central Khon Kaen, a shopping mall near the university, in Khon Kaen, Thailand.
The programme combined health education with hands-on screening, offering free oral cancer screening alongside informational sessions for the public. A particularly moving component was the survivors' experience-sharing segment, where head and neck cancer survivors spoke directly with the audience about their journeys. To make the event engaging and memorable, a head and neck cancer survivor and a head and neck surgeon performed music together on stage, blending entertainment with inspiration.
The campaign's awareness messaging was deliberately forward-looking: while tobacco smoking and betel quid chewing are declining in Thailand, the team focused attention on emerging risk factors — the rising use of e-cigarettes and the increasing burden of HPV-related head and neck cancers — recognizing these as the next frontier for prevention efforts.
Held at a time when public interest in health and wellness is growing, the Khon Kaen event demonstrated how creative, community-based outreach can make cancer awareness accessible and relatable, contributing meaningfully to the global observance of World Head and Neck Cancer Day.
